• $70 million NJDOT project constructed a new, mile-long two-lane truck route between County Road and Secaucus Road in Hudson County including a new intersection and roadway improvements at New Road and County Road.
• This project was intended to facilitate freight movement from Newark and Elizabeth Ports to intermodal rail facilities, distribution centers, other major regional highways and to improve access to and from trucking distribution facilities along Doremus Avenue and the New Jersey Turnpike.
• Staged construction was necessary to maintain one lane of traffic at all times.
• Two existing Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) 72” ID Steel Water Mains were impacted by the project and would experience traffic above them at locations that previously did not.
• Using conventional weight soil would induce an estimated 0.8 inches of settlement below the pipe at center line; therefore, UL-FGA was used as fill in order to greatly reduce the anticipated settlement of the pipes.
• Steel sheeting was used between the widened roadway and a tributary to the Hackensack River.
