• UL-FGA used in blue roof construction for the Solar Carve Tower: a new 10-story office tower designed by Studio Gang at 40 Tenth Avenue, located in the meatpacking district, adjacent to the High Line, in New York City.

• Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, is leasing approximately 40,000 square feet of ground floor retail space for its U.S. interactive marketing center at the base of the Solar Carve Tower.

• The project creates 20,000 square feet of outdoor spaces, including a shared roof deck and a second-floor public gathering space adjacent to the park.

• Blue roofs in New York City are used to reduce the amount of stormwater entering the combined sewer system during rain events.  A combined sewer system carries stormwater that falls on rooftops, streets, and sidewalks, and wastewater from homes and businesses through a single sewer pipe to treatment plants. During heavy rainfall, stormwater can exceed the capacity of the sewer system and a combination or storm- and wastewater can be discharged into local waterways. Blue roofs are intended to minimize this overflow.

• The UL-FGA layer in the blue roof system provided water storage through the 40% porosity.  The UL-FGA layer was approximately 10 inches deep.  A 1-inch thick sand bedding layer and 3-inch thick concrete paver provided ballast on top of the UL-FGA layer.
